Lecture: Skeletal muscle regeneration in fish

    Professor
    Department of Biology
    University of Fribourg
    Switzerland

Anna Jazwinska grew up in Poland and studied Biology at the University of Warsaw. She extended her studies for one year at King’s College London, where she investigated hair follicle formation in rats. Her doctoral work was on Drosophila embryos and imaginal disc patterning at the Max Planck Institute in Tübingen, Germany. During the advanced phase of her project, the lab relocated to the University of Cologne, Germany, where she received her PhD in 2000.

For her postdoctoral training, Anna joined the Biocenter in Basel, Switzerland, working on tracheal development in Drosophila. She then switched model organisms to zebrafish by moving to Children’s Hospital Boston, Harvard Medical School (USA), where she transitioned to an independent scientist. In late 2007, Anna moved to Switzerland as a junior group leader at the University of Fribourg, where she received tenure as a professor in 2010. Her current research focus is organ regeneration in zebrafish and platyfish.
